SF Supervisor Leading on Mountain Lake Cleanup

Alioto-Pier visits Mountain Lake to learn about contamination issues

On Friday, April 29, 2008, San Francisco Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier visited with community members and agency representatives to learn more about lead and pesticide contamination at Mountain Lake in the Presidio of San Francisco.  Organized by concerned citizens at Friends of Mountain Lake Park, the meeting discussed ways to encourage Caltrans to sit down with the Army and the Presidio Trust and determine how to clean up the lead and pesticides polluting this beautiful natural and cultural resource. Of the agencies involved, Caltrans has been the most disappointing, pledging much, but delivering little. With the agencies not moving forward in cleanup discussions, roadway contamination from adjacent Highway 1 storm drains continues to threaten Mountain Lake. Alioto-Pier has provided critical leadership when state and federal agencies are stalemated in their deliberations, working to bring the parties together and resolve their differences in the public interest.
